With the case open, slowly handrotate the handwheel toward you. Be sure to Always Raise The Presser Foot while threading the upper thread! As for oiling, since your machine is an older mechanical, it probably needs a thorough cleaning and oiling. Although not the same as your model, the threading and operation is most likely the same.
